Green Deal Call: "Restoring biodiversity and ecosystem services" under the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme 

Following on from the European Commission’s European Green Deal

Communication, which sets out the path for a fundamental transformation of Europe’s economies and societies, a call for a proposal aiming at “Building a low-carbon, climate resilient future: Research and innovation in support of the European Green Deal” has been published under Horizon 2020.

Under this call, call area 7 “Restoring biodiversity and ecosystem services” (LC-GD-7-1-2020) is particularly relevant for the new 

EU Biodiversity Strategy to 2030 : it addresses restoration, inter alia to achieve favourable status for species and habitats of the Birds and Habitats Directives inside and outside of the Natura 2000 network. Funded projects will be based on existing knowledge and will allow both the research and practice communities to cooperate in demonstrating and promoting systemic solutions for upscaling and promoting urgent restoration to increase biodiversity and support a wide range of ecosystem services, as requested in the Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 for damaged terrestrial, freshwater, coastal and marine ecosystems.

Funds are available for both research and implementation of measures. Actions will demonstrate how transformational change through ecosystem restoration delivers at large scale, with first visible results by 2024. Applications are expected by 26 January 2021.
